Abstract

Across physics, biology, and philosophy, humanity has repeatedly encountered a fundamental limitation: observable reality seems insufficient to explain its own emergence. Matter displays order, but its order appears rooted in something deeper than the laws that describe it. Life exhibits coherence, intelligence, and adaptive structure, but biological mechanisms alone do not fully elucidate the origins of this coherence. Consciousness illuminates the world from within, yet escapes reduction to neural computation. The Theory of Hidden Processes (HP) arises as a speculative yet disciplined attempt to conceptualize what may underlie all three domains. HP posits that the observable universe is an expression of pre-physical dynamics, designated by the symbol Ψ, which operate beneath and prior to measurable physical phenomena. Matter is treated as the external stabilization of these processes. Consciousness is treated as their internal manifestation. Between these two expressions lies the biological organism, a structure shaped by-and resonant with-both sides of the hidden foundation. Within this organism, water is proposed as a uniquely potent mediator: a substance whose physical dynamics may be capable of reflecting or embodying deeper organizational tendencies emerging from Ψ. This study does not aim to prove these statements. Rather, it develops a coherent framework for understanding them and provides conceptual experimental designs that allow the theory to be interrogated, refined, or falsified. HP therefore stands not as an alternative physics, but as a philosophical speculative architecture that may inspire new directions of inquiry.
